How’s it going?

Long time, no paint/post..

Well, I’ve been painting, but due to the lack of internet at my house, I haven’t been able to post things..

I’ve got tumblr on my phone now, so hopefully, I’ll have some new work to post in the near future..

The good news is > FINALLY! I’m in the process of organising my very first art show..it’s in a small place called “Ugees” in West End, here in Brisbane..I’ll keep you posted..

Secondly, I’m taking up a life drawing class from Wednesday..so I’ve armed myself with charcol and a giant sketch book..

the life drawing classes are with burlesque dancers here in Brisbane, so the content with costumes should be interesting..

Again, hopefully, I’ll have some nice things to post for you soon..

In the meantime..I hope you are all well and have been busily painting/drawing/looking for yourselves..

“Grace Under Pressure”

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working on this little lady. She is stealing my heart the further we get to know each other.

She was smitten by her enemies and two knives were found in her back. I’ve given her flowers to make her feel a little more comfortable.

She’s not finished yet (of course)…soon though…

“Sometimes My Heart Breaks” 5 November 2009

Recently, I got stooged by another dude. Everyone around me, was just expecting me to be totally cool with being rejected again, and giving me pointless and  ‘sage advice’ such as: “you should just be more positive about men” (this advice coming from people who have been in relationships for a decade - which is as long as I have been by myself). Great stuff! Needless to say, I blocked all the noise out and did a rough painting of what was happening at the time. The stars came later, as mainly to counter-react what the statement of the painting is saying…as in, you are all bright and cheery, but deep down (always) there is another message..

It’s all crooked and not symmetrical. This wasn’t a purposeful thing, it’s just the way it happened. Having said that though, you can pretty much use the assymetry to symbolise the imperfection of the human heart and or emotional state at any given time…

PS: the dude really wasn’t worth feeling hurt over, but at the time, it’s difficult to see that…also..I don’t know if this (the painting, not the dude) is finished yet…

This is another painting that I”m working on, but have not yet finished. It’s another use of Disco Nap lyrics: “What makes you tick, what makes you real”. I loved the words, and in my mind I saw a girl as a puppet, being manipulated by strings, and that question, of finding the reality inside of the puppet. I don’t know if that makes any sense…it’s just what I saw…it’s nearly done though…i think…

Disco Nap Painting: 002 “please don’t pull the string if my kite is flying, but please, please bail me out if I’m drowning”

These lyrics in particular resonated with me. Most of us, from quite a young age, strive for independence and take pride in being able to decide how our lives should be (at least I hope so). As we all know though, life is not that simple as the old saying goes: ‘the road to hell is paved with good intentions”, and when the time comes that throughout our ‘flying’ we make a wrong turn and end up plummeting into the depths of the ocean, here is hoping, that we have someone to bail us out, dust us off and set us back up in the air again.

With that in mind, I tried to make the painting as dramatic and as simple in content as possible. Drama created primarily through use of brushstrokes and colour choice and simple as using a kite - something that when it comes to it, is difficult to paint.
